More Than Summer Break

Summer is hard on a lot more families than people realize.

Every summer, our drive-through food line grows longer as parents work to keep food on the table while children are home all day. What may seem like “just summer break” to some families can quickly become a stressful season for others trying to stretch already tight budgets.

At Dallas Christian Ministry, we see it every week. Cars filled with children. Parents worried about making groceries last. Volunteers loading trunks with cereal, bread, meat, snacks, and pantry staples that help families make it through another week.

For many families, it is not about extras. It is simply about making sure there is enough food in the house.

That is why summer support matters so much.

Because for a child, something as simple as opening the pantry and seeing food can mean feeling safe.
